Halfway through the NFL season, which players have overperformed?
QB: Matt Stafford
The Lions lost the best receiver and have stayed afloat behind the ungraceful brilliance of Matt Stafford. He has 15 TDs to just four picks and a passer rating of a sterling 105.7. His name has even been thrown around in the MVP discussion.
RB: Melvin Gordon
Jay Ajayi makes a compelling case for this spot but alas comes up short to Gordon who last year ran for less than 650 yards and didn’t score a single TD. This year he has 461 yards already and has 8 TDs rushing as well as two receiving.
WR1: T.Y. Hilton
Last year he only had 5 TDs, this year he’s already got four and nearly 700 receiving yards not half way through the season. Pretty crazy stuff from T.Y.
WR2: Marvin Jones
His career high in receiving yards is 816 and he’s already got 623. He has 4 TDs and is filling in the giant Megatron shaped hole pretty nicely.
WR3: Terrelle Pryor
His numbers alone are not that impressive but you have to consider that his 350 receiving yards and 3 TDs are his first as a WR. The former QB has been pretty much the lone bright spot for Cleveland’s worst team.
TE: Martellus Bennett
He filled in so well while Gronk was hurt that he still gets playing time. He’s had a three TD game and is everything the Pats need in a TE, somebody good enough to not drop Tom Brady’s perfectly thrown passes.
O-Line: The Oakland Raiders
Pro Football Focus ranked them 16th last year and they are absolutely killing it this year. They are first in the league in sacks allowed, having only given up seven so far. Also, they have lead their running backs to 4.7 yards per rush, good for seventh in the league.
