Its not the start of the regular season but its the official start of the new NFL year. Teams are finally able to trade, cut, acquire, and release players onto their roster. With so many big name veterans hanging up the cleats, its going to be a very busy and hectic offseason.
Already, we’ve seen many trade acquisitions and players planning to leave their current team. Some teams are faced with the hard reality of releasing players they once thought turn their team around, but ultimately crashed and burned. Players such as RGIII and Johnny Manziel will be unrestricted free agents and will be looking for a new home next season. Whether or not they get picked up, lay in the hands of the NFL coaches.
But stay alert. There were a lot of truly great Hall of Fame players that retired this year, leaving a lot of teams to fill that void. Teams such as the Lions and Broncos have a lot of decisions to make on how they can fill the gap Megatron and Manning left. How they go about this is up to them, but its bound to be an interesting process. Do these teams go in a new direction? Or do they try to replace these players to stick to their scheme? We don’t know.
We even have Deflategate to worry about. The unbelievably drawn out process is still playing out as the NFL appeals Brady’s last successful appeal. What does this mean for the Patriots? Well if the NFL loses, they may grant the Patriots their lost draft picks ( 1st and 4th round ) or grant them additional compensatory picks to compensate. This could drastically change the flow of this years NFL draft.
We’ll be following all the big trades that happen this week and keep you updated. But the big news is, the NFL is back ( sorta ), and we’re really excited about it. With so many moving parts this offseason, its going to be a very interesting NFL year. Some teams will win, and some teams will lose. But, football is back baby and the coaches are pumped.
