Its been a crazy day so far as today marks the new NFL season. There have been trades, acquisitions, and cuts around the whole league. As teams start to form their rosters for the 2016 season, new faces are appearing on multiple to new teams. The chess match of free agents, trades, and players on waivers begins today. While there is a lot of time left for rosters to be altered, here is what happened around the league today:
Brock Ostweiler to the Texans:
The Broncos offered Osweiler a deal worth $14 million a year to fill their current starting quarterback position, but the Texans outbid them. Osweiler and the Texans agreed to a 4 year, $72 million deal, with $37 million guaranteed. There is talk that the Broncos may be looking to RGIII to fill their missing quarterback position, but no official deals have been reached yet.
Lamar Miller to the Texans:
The Texans are really trying to rejuvenate their offense with the recent addition of Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller. Brock Osweiler and DeAndre Hopkins is certainly a great start but with the addition of Lamar, the Texans will have a powerful run game too. Miller and the Texans agreed to a 4 year, $26 million contract, with $14 million guaranteed.
Travis Benjamin to the Chargers:
This deal is a win, win situation. Benjamin, an explosive receiver, never had a decent quarterback but still put up good numbers. Since the Chargers are a throwing team, look for Benjamin and Rivers to have a great fantasy season. Benjamin and the Chargers agreed to a 4 year, $24 million deal, with $13 million guaranteed.
Chris Ivory to the Jaguars:
Chris Ivory will be leaving the Jets to join T.J. Weldon in Jacksonville’s backfield. Taking some of the weight off of Bortle’s shoulders, the Jaguars are a team to look out for. Ivory will be going the Jaguars as the terms of the contract are still being negotiated.
Matt Forte to the Jets:
With the loss of Chris Ivory, the Jets were in desperate need for a strong running back to fill the void. Since its unlikely that Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain in New York, its crucial that the Jets lock down a top tier running back. The contract is currently being negotiated.
Doug Martin staying with the Buccaneers:
Doug Martin was hesitant about staying in Tampa knowing his value had increased. However, after much negotiating, Doug Martin is staying in Tampa for another 5 years. The two agreed to a 5 year, $35 million contract.
DeMarco Murray to the Titans:
The Eagles and Titans agreed to a trade where the Eagles will give the Titans DeMarco Murray and their 4th round draft pick, for the titans higher round draft pick. This is one of the dumbest deals I’ve ever seen but I guess the Eagles are really trying to start from scratch.
