I’m sorry, but can we look at this? I’m not the only one who is confused by this, right? I mean seriously, what the fuck is happening with the Golden State Warriors? What happened to the “Super-Team” that Stephen A. Smith ranted about for over ten minutes? In the 2014-15 season the Warriors were able to win the NBA championship. Now there can be some discrepancies, but generally that means that they are the best team in the league. Instantly they became the team to beat. They had Steph Curry set a record for most 3’s in a season, and the splash brothers were beginning to form. Then in the 2015-16 season they went 73-9. SEVENTY-THREE AND F*CKING NINE! That is the best regular season record of all time. They had a better record than Jordan and the ’96 Bulls! Their reign of terror was continuing, and our nation split between bandwagon-fans and haters. They had broken so many records and played so well that I think they deserved it. But they choked. And as LeBron and Instagram never let us forget, they blew a 3-1 lead. So what happened from there? Oh yeah, they signed Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant has been described by Stephen A. Smith as “one of the top three players in the world”. So this MVP level candidate joined Steph and Klay, became the third Splash Brother, and added to the nightmare that was the Golden State Warriors.
Last season the Warriors opened the season by going 24-0. That is the longest opening season win-streak in NBA history. So if we keep the same team, just add one of the best players in the league, what’s going to happen? Well, if you’re like me, you were thinking that Kevin Durant could make sure that those nine losses that happened last season would not happen this season. Very unlikely I know, but anything is possible with this team. They were 73-9 and blew it in the finals. Anything is possible. So for this season, we need to do some math: Record breaking team that opened last year 24-0 + MVP level player = What? That’s right, they lost their opening game.
Tell me how this adds up? I honestly have no idea. If you look at a previous article written by “Fisch” you will see that, before this season started, he said that the Warriors were going to win the NBA Finals this year and that “there’s nothing we can do about it”. Almost the entire nation, including myself, had the same thought. But this? This is something we did not see coming. The Warriors are currently 4-2. I am not saying that that is a terrible record. They have only played six games, have only lost twice, and they do have a positive record, but somehow they are still worse off than last season. Fisch may be right and they may go on to win the NBA Finals. Better yet, they could pick it up and win out the rest of their season. Like I said earlier, anything is possible. But how are they not killing every team? Steph Curry, the man who drained over 400 3-pointers last season, failed to make a single shot beyond the arc during last weeks game against the Lakers. Is Steph past his time? Is this so called “Warrior’s Super-Team” overrated? I do not have the answers. Most articles on this website are a college student’s perspective to this type of question. But this is not that. This is an article written by someone who is genuinely confused as to why the Golden State Warriors are only having an average start to their season when they have the potential to be having an unreal season of draining 3’s and breaking records in the way that only a Warrior’s Super-Team would be able to do.
