July 7th, 2016. The day the NBA changed forever. The day Stephen A. Smith was his usual self and ranted/yelled about something happening in the sports world. The day the Kevin Durant chose to sign with the Golden State Warriors.
“This SuperTeam is going to ruin the league”. “KD is a coward”. “The rest of the league is screwed”. These were all things that were said about the Warriors heading into this years, and NBA fans were showing their hate.
But has anyone been paying attention recently? The Cleveland Cavaliers are attempting to do pretty much the EXACT SAME THING. The Cavs fans were all pissy and complaining when KD made the transition, yet no one is pointing out the correlation when the Cavs are making acquisition left and right. They’ve picked up Korver and now have LeBron talking to reporters about his team needing a “Playmaker” in order for his team to win. Is this true? Lets break down the current Cavalier team.
Small Forward: They have LeBron James, a man who I will reluctantly call one of the most talented players of all time. This man can dunk, can block, can drain 3’s, defend and can do every aspect of the game better than most players. He is amazing. He was even better than a lot of players when he was 19. He’s kind of like the 2000 Yankees or the Patriots: people hate him because he’s good. Remember when those “LeBron is a Bitch” t-shirts came out? I may or may not have one.
Point Guard: Kyrie Irving. Kyrie Fucking Irving. This man is amazing. He has the handles of a god, has made a higher percentage of 3s than curry this season, can break ankles, and in my opinion, is the best player on the Cavs. If there were 10 seconds left and I had to pass the ball to a Cavalier, I would pass it to Kyrie over LeBron any day of the week.
Power Forward: Kevin Love is currently the top Power Forward in the league. He has range, can block, and is a great defender. What’s not to Love about Kevin Love?
Shooting Guard: JR, Smith, the man without a t-shirt. I never expected much from this guy, yet during the NBA finals he played a key role in Cleveland’s success. He’s is a talented mid range shooter and plays talented man-to-man defense. Yet despite this strength the Cavs still thought it would be smart to go out and sign a new Small Forward. This is where Kyle Korver comes in. Korver is the definition of wet beyond the arc, and yet is still an above average defender.
In my opinion, I think the most comparable team to the Cavs this season is the Denver Broncos, here’s why. Last year they were the best team in their division, yet not the best team overall. And when it came down to it they managed to rise up and pull it off. Yet this season? Not so hot. I’m not saying the Cavs won’t make the playoffs. I’m not even saying they don’t have a chance of winning it all this year. I’m just saying they’re not doing so well recently.
And now we have LeBron out here complaining to the media saying “we need a playmaker”. That’s bull. LeBron is just saying that in an attempt to justify the fact that they’ve lost 4 out of their last 5 games. He’s not losing to the Warriors. He’s losing to average teams like the kings, and even the Pelicans when Anthony Davis WASN’T EVEN PLAYING. LeBron is just having a tantrum that he’s not number 1. In my opinion, if LeBron truly views himself as the team leader he should not be complaining this much to the media; instead he should take it upon himself as the Team Captain to be the play maker that he believes his team so desperately needs.
