Hanley Ramirez single-handedly bullied the Yankees 4 games in a row to help the Red Sox sweep the Yankees and gain a 3 game lead for first place in the AL East.
Hanley was responsible for a walk off homer in the bottom of the 9th inning a few days ago, and a pair of ding dongs last night to help edge the Sox over the Yanks. This dude is on fire, and nobody is putting him out.
Over the course of the 4 game series, Hanley went 9 for 16 ( .592 AVG ), went yard 4 times, and drove in 9 RBI. He entered to series batting .284 and left with an average of .294. Not to discredit the Yankees pitching, but their pitching sucks right now and Hanley just made that crystal clear.
Everyone on the Red Sox was doing their job well, but Hanley just decided to kick it into beast mode and size the Yankees up big time. It honestly looked like that one kid that got held back 4 times, playing on the JV team. The Yankees, who desperately needed to win this series, threw some of their best pitchers, but it wasn’t enough to stop the red hot Red Sox.
The Sox have won 9 of their last 12 and are starting to get healthy again, just in time for the post season. Assuming the Red Sox can maintain their lead in the AL East, the Sox will clinch the division and sit on the no. 1 spot.
Unfortunately the Sox wont be playing the Yankees every game so it wouldn’t be fair to say that they’re going to win every remaining game, but if Hanley keeps playing this well, it wouldn’t be unreasonable. The dudes gone yard 12 times in his last 21 games, and only seems to be getting better. With Ortiz out of the line up last night, Hanley took it upon himself to break the spirits of Yankees fans, and he succeeded.
To put it lightly, Hanley shoved the Yankees into a locker that it doesn’t look like they’ll be able to get out of until next season. If the Yankees somehow manage to squeeze in and see the Red Sox in the playoffs, they know exactly what to expect: a whole lot of Hanley.
