Game 7 of the World Series is always an exciting time no matter who is playing. Everything is one the line, and winner takes all. So I sat my ass down on the couch and settled in for the game of a lifetime, knowing that some form of history was going to be made. Now, if you are out there and you say that this was just a typical World Series match-up, you’re absolutely wrong. One of these teams was about to break a drought, and if you do not think that making history is exciting enough to be the World Series, you’re crazy. That’s what the World Series is for. This was, in fact, the most exciting World Series I’ve ever witnessed, and here’s why:
Scoring: I turned on the TV and less then 30 seconds in there was a home run. From right there I knew this would be an amazing game. However, despite this craziness, a one run game in the first inning would not have been exciting. I like the Cubs, and being from Boston I understand a good World Series curse, but I didn’t want a 1 run game where the last 8 innings were boring. Can you imagine that? Yes there may have been a few exciting snags, but there is nothing more exciting than scoring runs. This high scoring game that was continuously being tied kept the excitement up allowing every fan, both cubs and Indians, to stay on the edge of their seat.
Series: I have witnessed multiple World Series’ in my life. I’ve seen an underdog team take the win, and I’ve seen the superior team sweep them in 4. A sweep in 4 is fantastic. It’s the biggest slap in the face a franchise can give to the opponents, and the entire league. However, there is nothing better than Game 7. Even in times other than the World Series, when the stakes aren’t as high, having a game 7 is still exciting. As I said earlier, it is a winner takes all situation. This type of game is the most terrifying, yet most thrilling time in all of sports. It is what competing is all about.
Extra Innings: The suspense that comes with extra innings is equally as thrilling as a Game 7 situation, and even is thrilling during regular season play. The screams that you can hear when a last strike smokes down the plate, or the swagger that you can see when a batter sails a walk-off. There is nothing better
History: One Hundred and Eight Years. Need I say more?
I just explained to you four very key aspects of what makes the great sport of baseball so great. However, in this historical game we were able to witness all of them. This was a high scoring Game 7 of the World Series that went into Extra Innings and allowed the Chicago Cubs to brea their 108-year drought. Can you imagine anything that could have made it more exciting? Exactly. You can’t. This was the greatest Game 7 in World Series history. It was a well-fought game, and even though they lost, the Cleveland Indians put up one hell of a fight. It is the beauty of baseball when a game can be so intense yet has a high level of class that comes with it. Maybe LeBron could learn a little bit from that? His Halloween costume seems a little ironic now, doesn’t it? Sucks that Cleveland blew a 3-1 lead.
