There was no bigger matchup up that NBA fans wanted to see this early in the season than the Warriors taking on the Thunder. Kevin Durant battling it out with his former team, and good friend, Russell Westbrook, after making one of the most controversial signings of all time. As hyped up as this game was, the end result did not live up to it at all. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 32-31, but the warriors were able to surge in the following 3 quarters, creating an absolute blowout in which they completely dominated the Thunder.
This game became extremely unwatchable by the second half, but if you stayed tuned in like me, you noticed quite the entertainment coming from the announcers, especially color commentator, Chris Webber. Now granted, Chris Webber wasn’t making a fool out of himself like Chris Berman was after the Cubs winning the world series, who for his sake I hope he was drunk, but Chris Webber’s commentary was laughable. Chris Webber was commentating the game like a guy that had just come out of a depression clinic and was cured.
This man could say nothing negative about what was going on in the game, whether it was how great of a play one team made, or how it’s okay that that last play was sloppy, to look how happy Kevin Durant looks even though he just got the shit blocked out of him by his former teammate. I stayed tuned into this blowout game just to hear what ‘silly’ thing this man was possibly going to say next. He at one point sounded like a mom watching their son play a little league baseball game, who sucks, but is trying to keep him positive. He told Draymond Green that it was okay that he wasn’t making any 3s, but told him to keep shooting because those will be falling by mid-season. I bet Draymond’s mother loved hearing Chris’ inspiring spirit that he was telling her son. This was some comedic and horrific announcing coming from this NBA game, but on the Brightside, we finally got to listen to something else besides Joe Buck and the World Series.
